Meet the Author
Welcome! I’m Liz SanFilippo Hall, and I tell stories and create spaces that help people feel seen, connected, and alive.
The short version of “who I am”:
I grew up in the Chicago area, where I spent hours writing in journals and on my bedroom walls (with my parents’ permission, of course). I have a master’s in humanities/creative writing from The University of Chicago, where I earned an accolade from author George Saunders for my creative writing. When I’m not writing, freelance editing, or diving into the rabbit holes of history and psychology, I’m chauffeuring my kids to all their favorite activities. My debut novel, Becoming Charlotte Corday, is coming out in the spring of 2027 from Apprentice House Press.
The longer version:
Stories and words have always been a lifeline for me. I spent my childhood getting lost in books and worlds of my own making. A lot of people would call me an introvert, but if I’m comfortable? You can’t get me to stop talking, especially about books.
For a long time, I believed that my life and career had to look a certain way. I did all the things I was supposed to do. I worked traditional jobs, mostly publishing and communications related, even as I whiled away my nights and weekends crafting fictional universes and documenting my life through creative nonfiction. After completing my master’s degree at The University of Chicago, I returned to adulting again, building a freelance career while working an odd assortment of jobs, including a fun stint as a Chicago Hot Dog Reporter (seriously) and as a Travel and Web Coordinator for an incredible cooking vacation company. After having my two kids, I returned to my creative writing dreams, refinding myself through scribbling in my journals and picking up my hobbies again, including drawing.
These days, when I’m not working on my books, I help my clients on a variety of ghostwriting projects, hang out with my writing partners either virtually or in person, organize workshops related to fostering creativity, coach emerging writers with their story ideas, design guided journals, and spend time with my family and friends. It’s a busy, full life… and I wouldn’t change a thing.
In addition to my debut novel, I have a lot of other creative projects in the works, and I can’t wait to share them with you. Be sure to join my author newsletter to stay in the know!
